Treasurer, Sylvia Gregory
Born into a poor miner’s family in Wales near the end of WWII I was a sickly small baby who was not expected to survive but my mother had other ideas! Despite frequent absences I did well at school and went to Grammar School. Leaving school at 16, I worked in a Lawyer’s and Insurance offices and was introduced and became proficient in clerical and accounting skills. However my ultimate goal was to become a nurse so I enlisted in Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps.
I returned to Wales for a short time and had resumed my clerical career when an Army friend decided to play matchmaker (for the 2nd time!) and introduced me to her brother Tom: the rest, as they say, is history!
We moved to Scotland in the late 70s when Tom started to work for BP offshore and spent 23 years living on the East Coast just outside Aberdeen, enjoying the Scottish culture and customs which were very similar to my own. We emigrated to the USA in 1998 to be near our daughter who had married and was living in Massachusetts where we also lived for over 15 years before retiring, becoming snowbirds for a few years and finally settling here 10 years ago.
